Bi-amping in general

Since I was "passively" (each mono block received a full range signal) bi-amping my RM 40's this weekend at the NYC gathering, there were discussions around the benefits of passive bi-amping, bi-wiring, and bi-amping with an active crossover.

I've not bi-amped my system, but I've been pretty thoroughly convinced of the benefits of bi-wiring over the last few weeks. Heck, even improving the jumpers on a bi-wireable set of high end speakers makes a huge difference!

Phil,

I absolutely hear the benefits of bi-wiring in my system. I do it by using Argent Audio's Pursang (silver) on the mid/tweeter and Sonoran Sesert Plateau on the woofers (copper).

Because of the gathering, I haven't yet heard my normal bi-wire setup with the 40's after Friday's excellent tune-up. I am looking forward to hearing it.

I did briefly try your bi-wire Audience on a single pair of 201's and it was suprisingly close to when two pairs of 201's were used. This started people basically saying you aren't gaining a lot on bi-amping with going active and getting rid of the passive crossover (which was one of the major points of the article I gave the link for).

i have bi wired, bi amped, and bi passed my speakers

that meaning i no longer use the gold plated whatsy giggys anymore i have the speakers cable coming directly into the air ports... eleminating that extra connection

bi wiring without bi amping is sorta stupid it probably means you dont have good enough wire!

I agree on removing connections to improve things.

I don't agree with your "stupid" statement, but you are entitled to your opinion just as much as I am.

The other possibility is that you need a more highly-resolving system to hear the benefits of bi-wiring. To my ears in my main system, there's no question that bi-wiring makes a significant difference...even dramatic differences when using different wires on highs/lows (depending on the cable)...admittedly, I don't hear much of a difference in my office/second system...

bi-wiring makes a huge difference on my RM40's! I have two equal runs of my speaker cables and have also made up a pair of jumpers of the same cable. I have tried the various combinations and bi-wiring was without a doubt the best, or should I say most effortless.
