MSB Platinum DAC III (SOLD)
« on: 27 May 2013, 04:20 pm »
In San Francisco Bay Area.   94401

I am reluctantly selling my MSB Platinum DAC III with volume control along with my completely maxed-out Empirical Audio Offramp 4.  They have been sitting in my closet for two months now after I switched systems.  My set up is now an active tri-amped system and I am using an Apogee Quartet for DAC and active crossover duties, so no need for the MSB and Offramp.

The Empirical Audio Offramp 4 was one of, if not the, last OR4s built by Steve before he moved on to OR5.  It was built with the TurboClock and Spdif Hynes Regulators.  Steve's work in this area is, of course, well documented.  This is truly a fantastic piece and was needed in my case as I use a Mac Mini as my source and my MSB does not accept USB (can be added by factory BTW).

MSB DACs are well reviewed as well.  Fantastic pieces.  There is something special about R2R ladder dacs imho.  What really impressed me regarding the performance of the OR4 and MSB together was how great they made my 16/44 files sound.  With prior dacs, and somewhat with the Apogee Quartet, I did not like listening to a lot of my redbook files as they sounded so flat compared to hi res files.  The OR4/MSB combo brought much more of the redbook recording to life, allowing me to enjoy much more of my library.

I would rather sell these as a package.  I do not have the original packaging from MSB, but I will pack the beast well.  BTW, I purchased the MSB from the manufacturer.  They had taken it in on trade.  It is in great shape, let's call it an 8.

I do have original packaging for the OR4.  I will rate 8 as well.  (photos will be posted)

Buyer pays for shipping and I will split paypal fees.

Please contact me with any questions.

Thanks for looking.
