Be aware that your receiver vents heat from the upper rear of it's case- which you have covered with your turntable.  I suggest you raise the turntable with some spacers to allow better flow of air to assist cooling.

Absolutely.  Cost-effective spacers I have used are two or three hockey pucks (~ 2" - 3") on all four corners.

Getting your speakers off the stand with the turntable should help phono quality tremendously.

I just picked up a Luxman R-113 receiver for under $100 shipped. Even at just 30-35 wpc, this thing puts out a lot of quality volume. There are higher power options as well (R-115 and R-117).

Unfortunately, I gave up vinyl long ago, so no feedback on the phono input.

Yup. More often than not, I think we tend to over estimate how much power we need for normal listening volumes. As long as the amp has a stout power supply and sturdy output devices (as most good classic receivers and amps do) you'd be surprised how far a solid 20 wpc can get you. I think many of these lower power amps can sound better than their behemoth brothers with relatively efficient speakers too.

So I got some hockey pucks to prop up the turntable and allow more ventilation. WAF of hockey pucks was low but I still convinced her to let me keep them there when I explained it could shorten the life of the receiver if it wasn’t getting adequate ventilation.

WAF of speaker stands was -10/100, so those are a no go for now. Maybe I can find some mid-century plant stands that will hold the speakers and also match that cabinet the receiver and TT sit on. We mostly listen at low to medium volume though and I think the hit in phono sound quality is minimal at lower volumes. I’m going to try to tell a difference with them on some temporary cardboard boxes or stools when she’s not home.

All I know is the new Adele 25 album I got for her sounds amazing on vinyl with this new cart.

I thought they looked OK, maybe even a little bit high-tech - at least compared to those industrial cork/corrugated rubber laminated vibration pads.

Maybe if she wasn't aware what they actually are .....  ;)
