Entry Level Turntables (Old vs. New)
« on: 28 Apr 2013, 10:16 pm »
Hi, Ever seen the last Rocky movie Rocky Balboa. In the movie Rocky Balboa, who is 60 tells Paulie he's still got some fire in the furnace and wants to compete boxing again. They have computer animated cartoons pitting old boxers vs. new. Lets have a match with entry level turntables. In my freshman year of college,1975 I was really opened up to the world of HiFi. A student could not afford a Linn -12 turntable,so I'm going in the entry level division. These were the most common tables I saw. The Technics SL-23, the Pioneer-12D/II, the Sansui SR-12, the Kenwood KP-1022, the AR-XA, and the Dual 1225. All these turntables were not much more than 100 bucks, some a little more. Now,today...the Rega-RP1, the Music Hall USB-1, the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, the Pro-Ject Debut III,or the Denon DP-300F. The newer ones mentioned go from 250 to almost 500 bucks. Can the old compete with the new? I'd like your opinions if may, and remember the cost of inflation really doesn't matter here, performance and build do.......thanks...Mark Korda.

Not sure I understand - are you looking for old bottom end vs. new bottom end? Or new bottom end vs what I could buy vintage for the same money?
