Those are good points Alex.
I need to run REW and see what's going on. We ran it at my friend's place (he knows a bit more about it than I do; I am still learning about translating what is happening with the measurements), and it is, indeed, a valuable tool.

Really understanding measurements is almost an entire art in itself it seems sometimes. Some things are quite obvious (like modal ringing/standing waves, etc) but there are TONS of other things a measurement shows as well. For a little help on translating measurements into what we hear, I wrote an article about decay times on our website here: http://gikacoustics.com/understanding-decay-times/
This article is mainly about the Waterfall graph and how to interpret what they can mean for the room. Of course, there are many other things to look at with a measurement too. The ETC for example is a great tool to take a look at to determine where strong reflections are coming from, though of course pages can be written about this as well.
