I can't speak to the Tom Cruise movie but we saw the first run on Broadway a few years ago. Then we caught the reprise roadshow here is St Louis. By far the original cast on Broadway was the best but the traveling show was fun too.

It's a pretty predictable story line but just loads of fun to watch live and great music to boot

I really wanted to enjoy the film as much as I enjoyed the music, but it wasn't quite there for me. I found Juliana Hough annoying after the first song or two. I thought Tom Cruise did pretty well in that role, though.

Another film you guys might like if you enjoyed Rock of Ages is Pitch Perfect. I really had no interest, but the reviews were strong and my lady friend wanted to watch it one night. I admit, I had a lot of fun with it.
