KAB still has similar one for $169, but you have to use your own vacuum cleaner hose attachment.

These are nice and small - easy to stash if you're a little cramped for space.  If you have room in your kitchen you could even keep it there with a supply of sleeves.  Really dirty old records might benefit from a rinse in the sink first, then clean with RCM fluid and dry on the machine.

I've got the KABUSA manual cleaner, and it does a great job.  But for only an extra $30, the self contained unit is a no brainer.  Any one want to buy my KAB EV-1 unit for $110?  I doubt if the Nitty Gritty does any better job, but self contained is certainly easier.

If they still make them like they used to, it'll do ya for many years. I've probably got a record Doctor version I (over 20 years old) that I purchased through Audio Advisor. It works great, and while I am tempted to replace it with a VPI, I never have.  I prefer Audio Intelligent solutions, and keep replacement pads on hand, as they do wear out. A great unit, and I think I prbably paid -$200 for mine, so a really good value.
Only caveat: if you clean several records you will have solution leak out of the bottom (reservior plug) so be aware your unit should be placed in a 'wet" area.  Not a big deal, I keep an absorbant cloth unider mine to catch this overflow. No good way w/o dissassebly to access or clean the reservior. I have never done this.

Happy listening,

Mark

I have the original Nitty Gritty model 1.0 before they "discontinued" the model as a NG and branded it Record Doctor.  The machine works great and has lasted for years, and you can still get all of the replacement parts, plus a couple of upgrades from KAB (better bearings and knob).  However I keep thinking of buying an automatic turning model, it does get very tedious turning and turning if you're doing several records, and especially for me because I use the three step Audio Solution liquids.  However this is a great price as the new NG Model 1.0 with the fancy wooden sides and little wells for fluid is $445.
