Using BP 25 DA as standalone DAC
« on: 21 Mar 2013, 01:54 pm »
Hello,

I already own a Bryston BP 25 DA preamplifier and I am planning to buy a new Bryston BP26 preamp. Is it possible to use the Bryston BP 25 DA only as a DAC feeding the Bryston BP26 preamp? If yes, how can I do that?

Thank you very much for your help.

I will offer another solution  - sell the BP25DA and get a used BDA-1. You'll pick up more inputs, possibly get a dedicated power supply (maybe the BP25DA had one for its digital side- don't know) and you will upgrade to dual DAC chips versus the single chip that's is in your preamp. The sound should be the "same" given the same crystal chips are used in both but better given the BDA-1 is really a fully separated 2 channel DAC. I would suspect that the costs could just be a wash, maybe a little out of pocket.

To me it makes more sense...

Thank you Ron for your replay.
That is exactly my plan as I will buy a bryston BDA-2 in few weeks. Meanwhile, I would like to use only the dac section of the BP25 DA and connect it to the BP26. Is that possible?.

Yes, use the tape-out BP 25DA to input BP26.
