In the late 1940's, into the 1950's, your standard quality preamp or integrated amp/preamp nearly always included user-selectable phono equalization so vinyl lovers had choices other than the RIAA curve. Probably the apogee for eq selection was the McIntosh C8 preamp with its multiple slide switches, almost permitting the user to create his own curves.
Beginning in the late 1950's and throughout the 1960's, the choices began to narrow down to three or four. By the 1970's, you were pretty much stuck with RIAA.
I, and my record collection, miss 78, Eur, ffrr curves and maybe a few others I can't recall right now.
Or is there new equipment out there which I don't know about incorporating switchable eq?
