AVA / Salk Room at Axpona
« on: 9 Mar 2013, 12:15 pm »
I had the opportunity to spend 20 minutes in Frank's room Friday at Axpona. Their room has never sounded better. We played some Sonny Rollins and it sounded like he was in the room. Frank sat in the back with his remote control which allowed him to switch pre amps, speakers, etc. Everything sounded so fine.

I will be back there today with some different people.

Agree completely!  Frank, Dean and Mary were incredibly helpful and patient.  They went above and beyond to let us A/B the 600R with the Synergy 450.   Both sounded great with the Salk speakers.  The AVA switcher is a fantastic tool and really was amazing for switching between various combinations of equipment.

The abilities of the Synergy, and how close it seemed to be to the Fet Valve is a tribute to its design.  I had been set on the Synergy, but the 600R did have a little something extra that showed up in some of the passages.  The bit of extra power in reserve is a factor to me as well.

We were very impressed, not only with the AVA equipment, but Frank and team's passion.  It was a pleasure to be there.

Now we just need to figure out what to order!

I never saw Frank listen to anybody like he listens to Mary!

I know it's about the sound...... What a HUGE difference a new faceplate and light makes. The dramatic difference was there to A/B along with the sound. For me it is a look much more worthy of what is in the box. They are beautiful and worthy of sharing the beauty with the most stunning SS8's I've ever seen.

When Frank was switching components I preferred the Synergy 450 over the 600R with the SoundScape 8's. The sound really opened up with the 450, I liked the bass a little more too. For the short period of time listening, tonally the two amps were VERY similiar. This was all with the Avastar preamp.

For a time he had the 450 with the T8 driving the SS8's, I was proud being a T8 owner.

Sorry, no pic's. I guess this would be another plus in my wife's column of why I should get an Iphone.
