Just found this group. First post, please humor me. This morning I dug out my older Bryston 4B (I think), amp. It lost a channel about 5 years ago and it's been sitting. I'm thinking I should do something. But it's so heavy I doubt shipping it somewhere is practical.
I have a little of the original literature, but since I am not the first owner, I might be missing something. I just looked and I cannot easily see the model number on the unit itself. The companion pre-amp is clearly marked, "0-4B." I suspect the main amp is a matched 04 as well.
It worked fine after I got it and was impressed by the unit and sound in the old Bose 901's that came with it. Eventually, it began to blow the fuse for one side. So I suspected a big electrolytic or two had died.
I guess I need to know more about where identification is on the unit, perhaps serial number, etc., then begin to figure how to put life back into it. That is one question for this group.
Second, how well would mine perform compared to newer technology? I've long been a classical music lover, but have been, "out of the loop," technologically for a long time. My present house unit is a 10 year old or so Denon, but I loved the Bryston when she was running. I'm well into retirement years now, but have decided if my Bryston can run again it would make me younger..............(grin).
Bryston thoughts?
Thanks,
