Oh good grief..he'd only know that if Firebaugh would take the time to list, which why oh why would he need to do that?  Look at it as a general rule of thumb- that most any will work.

You'll be very happy.  Enjoy!

Dear Clifford,

did you have your listening session at Eugene Hi Fi?  I'd be happy to hear your comments about
the cartridges you listened to.

I purchased my Frog Gold from Dale at Eugene. . .his first sale as the US Van Den Hul distributor.  He's a great guy, you should enjoy your visit.

I can tell you right now - don't expect Dale to respond, he doesn't follow postings - it's better to just give him a call, as he can be slow responding to emails as well.

Nice WTL Super by the way!, I own an Amadeus GTA - and decided to keep my Classic MK V, as it's still beautiful to behold.

I called Dale last week to order an A 23 mat.  He picked up right away so he's easy to reach that way.  But he's at CES now.

Hi Clifford,

I recall that he was saying that he and John DeVore were in fact sharing a room together at CES - that he seemed quite happy about - as I've been knowing Dale since October 2009, and have always enjoyed chatting with him about all things Jazz as well as vinyl, I appreciate his honesty more then most.

And, you've made a great choice in going with the XXmk2, as well as the A23 mat, but please don't overlook the Heed Audio Quasar, as I still think it's one of the best sounding phono-stages that I've ever laid my ears upon short of that Acoustic Plan PhonoMaster I mentioned earlier on - which you'll be able to hear at Dale's by the way.

And, seeming that I'm very very much into Jazz - you know that I'm diggin' your username.

Great taste in Music and a wonderful table/cartridge to boot.

Happy Listening.

O_o scar,

You are right on about the Heed.  I've been using it for 3 weeks, totally satisfied, it sounds as good or better than the Coincident Statement Phono pre I used previously (based on long term memory which may be faulty).  I really see no reason to take delivery of the Decware phono stage I have on order, other than to compare it to the Heed.

Glad to hear you are a jazz fan.

Good morning Jeff,

It's nice to hear that you're enjoying the Heed as well, I think that once you've had the chance to compare it to the Decware - you'll see just how much more quiet it is!, which is why I tend to shy away from tubes in phono-stages.

I started buying jazz at the age of 10, and that's 44 years ago - an haven't looked back. Who needs lyrics?, when one can gain more insight through listening into the actual notes/arrangements as well as deeper into an Artist Soul when it's purely based upon instruments played with such finesse.

Not I.

Once again, happy listening - and I'll be watching your process.

Dear Clifford,

Did you ever have your listening session at Eugene's?  I was curious to hear about it.

No unfortunately.  Dale was ill when I was there for the holidays, and I forgot to call ahead to make arrangements.  Besides comparing cartridges I was looking forward to hearing Devore speakers.  I'm using a Dynavector XX2 Mk2 now and it is marvelous.  The combination of cart, arm and table breathes life into the music, doing more than extracting detail from the disk.

Hi Guys,

I've just received a call from Dale, in regards to the CES show - where he mentioned just how nice the new DeVore Fidelity X ( 10 ) sounded in tandem with a VdH Gold in the system. Something to do with them let go of notes more realistically in regards to nimbleness.

I merely wanted to let you all know that he's back home and can be reached with questions/price quotes.
As, mentioned here as well as on numerous forums - I respect him as a fellow Music Lover, and trust him even more so as a honest person/dealer whom actually believe in the products to which he stocks.

And, no - I don't get paid to talk about him, it's just that I feel others should be made aware that he's one of those very rare sort of dealers that actually cares about seeing a customer get off the merry-go-round chasing components every other month or so, and become content with components that were chosen wisely to begin with.

Back to the Heed Quasar.  As mentioned above I'd been using it and found it extremely good.  The Decware ZP3 I ordered maybe 3 months ago arrived last week.  I listened to it for a few days, and it was way too noisy compared to the Heed.  I've had tube phono stages before (Coincident, Aesthetix) and probably became accustomed to some tube rush.  After living with the Heed for a couple months, any background noise now seems excessive.  So I sent the ZP3 back for a refund.  Of course didn't have it long enough to evaluate the sound.  It would take a few weeks minimum just to break in.  That said, during it's first few days of play time it offered nothing sonically over the Heed.

Good morning Jeff,

I'm sorry to have missed your latest posting, but I'd have thought that from what I've heard the Heed compared to in friends systems whom have tried tube based phono-stages - and we all agreed the Quasar takes some serious coins to beat.

Did, you ever get the chance to revisit Dale as a means of checking out any of the VdH cartridges?, as I'd like to hear your findings.

Have a great weekend - Jeff.
