CDP Based system
« on: 21 Feb 2013, 02:05 am »
My 2CH system consists of :

Rega Saturn CDP
Modwright SWL 9.0 Pre
McCormack DNA 0.5 Silver Upgrade Amp
Proac Response 2 speakers

I just returned from visiting a local HiFi store.. when told of my setup, they said they could do better...
replace the CDP with digital source and processors they told me... I swear .. bits and bytes are still leaking from my ears..

Here's the challenge .... ' HOW'  do I transfer from a CDP based system... to a cool digital  system ...can that be  done with a $2k budget... all suggestions are welcome and appreciated...

Can I  keep the CDP as a transport / dac.. so that I can continue to play CDs or do I rip them and get rid of this player ?

Your help is truly appreciated ......

Have a musical day..

Not to sound cynical, but what do you expect they would say? They are trying to sell you a system. YOu have a very nice system so be careful about replacing.

Yannick,

You can get a good computer-based system to replace your cd player.  The Hollis HAL MS-2 server (about $800) comes with a drive to burn your cd's to a hard drive.  There are a lot of good DACs on the market starting from $250 for the Audioquest Dragon.  You'd need a monitor, keyboard, 2 drives (one for backup), a DAC, the HAL, and some cables - all of which can be acquired within your budget.

I don't sell any DACs or servers so there's nothing in this for me.  Happy hunting!
