Anyone heard of Eliza Carthy??

There's an Art Dudley article in Stereophile that includes "the ten most critically over-rated albums of all time."  I don't agree with the list, but can understand the inclusion of albums like Patti Smith "Horses" or Lou Reed's "Berlin."  However, he includes one artist I've never even HEARD of---
Eliza Carthy and her debut  "Angels & Cigarettes."  Am I just out of the loop??

BTW, the complete list
1) Eliza Carthy
2) John Lennon  Double Fantasy
3)  Lou Reed  Berlin
4) Patti Smith  Horses
5) Bob Dylan Desire
6) Lou Reed Raven
7) Robbie Robertson Robbie Robertson
8.) Springsteen Asbury Park
9) Michael Jackson Thriller
10) Alanis Morisette Jagged Little Pill

She's folk/punk, folk with an edge.   Not bad,  I have it and like it.  I bought it based on listening to it in the store, not reviews,  so until now I didn't realize it was critically aclaimed.

You can probably hear few samples at www.towerrecords.com

The article made it sound like EVERYONE should have read at least three reviews about her by now.  I thought maybe I was the last to know.

I limit my consumption of critics opinion to "recording quality" and frequent stores that have listening capabilities.

Although I'm not a big fan of most of the titles listed in the article, so I have to agree with the writers opinion in this case.

Just a clarification,  Dudley's list COULD include good albums that were overrated as great/spectacular albums.  But he doesn't like several on the list, even saying Lou Reed's "Raven"  (based on the Poe poem) qualifies as one of the 10 Worst LP's ever.  I'll admit I hadn't even heard OF the CD until seeing it on the list.

When I first heard of the Raven I thought it was a cool idea - Lou Reed and Edgar Allen Poe a match made in purgatory.

Then I listened to it.... and I have to agree with it being on the list

Liza Carthy is the daughter of Norma Waterson and  Martin Carthy.  Plays with her parents in the group Waterson Carthy and backs up her mother on some of her solo albums.  Quite a wonderful voice for some things.

She does a lot of real traditional English folk as well  as the harder edged stuff.
