Formula IV Tonearm
« on: 12 Feb 2013, 09:05 pm »
Hi All,

I'm setting up an old AR Xa turntable, and I'm installing an old JH Formula 4 arm. I'm missing the anti skating weight. Does anyone have one in their junk parts box? Or know how much it weighs?

I also have the Mayware version with the lead weights in a bucket. That one needs a cartridge clip fastener. The guys at Radio Shack had no idea what a tonearm actually is! Makes me feel older though. Any good parts suppliers out there? Thanks.

Hi,
You can get clips at Parts Connection.  They have Cardas and 1877 phono.  1877 makes a nice looking set for $16, I've never used them though.  The inexpensive Cardas are kind of flimsy and you need to cover the barrel with heat shrink.  Both companies make more expensive ones. I saw some cheap ones on ebay. They look like the ones on headshell wires - ought to do the job.

I don't know what that anti-skate weight is, my Sonus has a bucket.  Why don't you use a couple of grams of plasticlay, and adjust the weight as needed.  Then you could weigh the clay, and you would at least know what you're looking for and be able to use the arm in the mean time.

I disassemble old gold printer cables and use the clips from them... they're perfect.

Thanks guys.  I used a variant of the clay trick. I cut a piece of rubber eraser and placed it on the shaft for the weight. Looks kind of funny, but it works. That printer cable idea sounds great.
