Any one got any idea? I can't specifically recall any that don't depict the male is being utterly deplorable. But apparently in Hollywood after watching too much Resident Evil, it is acceptable for women.

Terminator 3
MIB 2

Aliens and Robots?

Generally speaking: men beating up women looks an awful lot like abuse... particularly if those women aren't aliens, robots, or demons (see "Army of Darkness")

So women get beat up by other women, and everyone can go after guys.

You could also try "Sleeping Beauty" or "The Sword in the Stone", or most Merlin-vs-Morgana examples.

Right, that is why I posted this. I found it fascinating, sexism.

So is adults not beating up children ageism? No reverse-Home Alone's.

Perhaps it's just the result of sexual dimorphism?

The War of the Roses

(this is a silly, old world topic)

Actually there is a lot of contemporary dialog. I need to find the name, but one feminist writer made a critique of the ridiculousness of Hollywood making it out like women are infallible, perfect to be anything they want including super heroes, spys, CEO, etc, but not a failure. Not that it makes anymore sense for men to be portrayed that way, but men get a lot more of 'coming to terms' roles.

I guess something similar to this new film would be like Clint Eastwood raping the town princess, and being a sort of anti-hero, hero. At least in that you are suppose to appreciate the morally corrupt but somehow morally correct person.

Rclark, how about MISERY starring Kathy Bates.

In hollywood the new action hero is a 120 pound 22 year old girl. Any movie about the days of the sword must feature sword wielding warrior women. Because there were so many of them, as we all know. On television swat teams have the same in the forefront of swat teams and the bosses are women too. Except the bad bosses. Judging by the commercials on TV, our heroic armed services are mostly comprised of women with children and black men. this all hails back to the production codes adopted in the early seventies which have the stated intent of social engineering. The bottom line is $$$ however. Through research, Advertisers are well aware that it is women who dominate in tv viewership and in what programs are watched, and those who are influenced to make purchases from advertising are largely women, by the numbers. Even in tv sports, you may have noticed that female aimed advertising has become quite common.

Back up the wagon there. You've just completely changed topic from the lack of deception of men beating up women and why we don't see that (because it looks like abuse) to claiming that we don't have flawed or bad women.

Try Monster, Mommie Dearest, Mean girls, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Fatal Attraction, Misery, Redacted, etc, etc, etc. Flawed women are all over the place.

I'm not sure if there are any movies I've seen where that is the actual "theme". However, there are many I can think of wherein a viewer understands the gist. The opening scene of "The Way of the Gun" comes to mind, for example.

Last I looked these are works of fiction, though some show a remarkable similarity to a former sister-in-law of mine.
Flawed people are everywhere.  Otherwise how do you account for Bose Wave sales?

I think that's pretty much it, in a nutshell.  This goes way beyond portrayal of one sex or the other of good guy or bad guy. The bigger problem is political correctness or agendas that try to overcompensate for past abuses, sort of like affirmative action discriminating against non blacks.  The net result is, men are now being victimized in retaliation.  This is no joke.  Notice how so many sitcoms portray men as mindless boobs, and women as competent?  As our society gradually changes from patriarchy to matriarchy, men are going to be victimized, and they already are.
I heard part of a show on public radio about discrimination against male children in school.  Teachers are much harder on boys than girls, and boys get lower grades for equivalent work. Girls mature sooner than boys and teachers reward their better behavior.  A much larger number of women, than men, now graduate from college with a bachelors or masters degrees.

The movies, TV, only reflect what's going on in society. It's not like it's all one way or the other, it's a trend.  Both men and women have always been the bad guy, but the number of female protagonists has increased, and men are increasingly portrayed as evil, incompetent or subservient.

Commercials and sitcoms are guilty as well.  It is either the kid is smarter than his parents or the Man is a dumb knob.  Whatever, no matter , just no TV or movies for me.  Propaganda is up and running on TV.

TV does often reflect reality, and the truth is that we are becoming more urban, more sophisticated, more worldly, with fewer traditional notions of sex, gender roles, and economic expectations (careers).  Whether anyone thinks that is a good thing or a bad thing, it's a fact.  Those that accept it and deal with it will be fine, those that don't will be like the grandfather in The Simpsons, yelling at the clouds.
