Hanging GridFusors
« on: 26 Jan 2013, 12:24 am »
I just got some GridFusors in and tried to hang them with tape.  Didn't work.  Tape doesn't stick to them.  GIK mentions somewhere that you can use pins.  If you use pins what kind so you use?  Looks like a very thin small nail would split the material.  Other ways you guys hang them?

Built a picture frame with 1/4 round trim and then glued it to a hardboard (peg board with out the peg holes).  Used that to fix it to the wall.

also, used string and coat hangers to hang it from a drapery rod.

Simple sewing pins work well, push/tap thru edge into drywall on a 45 degree angle, easy as pie.

When I had mine I used drywall screws(into the cavity wells)four per panel.
They were the ones with the course thread and I believe an 1.5" long.
Then once installed I touched up the heads with white paint.
Good and solid,never came loose.

Simple sewing pins for well into drywall.  Never had a problem with the tape if you get the foam core type double stick.

"T" pins work well....  Heavy Duty Velcro works....   If you want to glue something on, use white glue, wood glue, etc.  both worked well for me.

Heading for the store for some T pins.  Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I just stacked them behind my Maggies last night just to get them out of the way.  WOW!  Can't wait to set them up properly.

Okay, going to try for the 1st time to upload some photos of the GridFusors.  I used Velcro to hang them up and it worked well.  Sounds MUCH better that the absorption panels I had in their place.  Please don't laugh at the room!

Magnepans even just look like they must sound awesome. Very nice room. Can't wait to get a diffuser behind my set. Can you describe the result in a little more detail? Especially the comparison to them versus absorbers?

Rclark, what I notice most about it vs absorption is that the vocals are crisper and cleaner and more precise (don’t know how else to say it).   Seems a bit livelier. In terms of soundstage width, the Maggies already put out a huge soundstage, so don’t really know if I hear any difference on that.  But perhaps a bit more depth. In my setup, it is a definite plus! Next, I might try some in the slanted ceiling behind me.  Thanks to Bryan from GIK for his advice.

Nice room and speakers  :thumb:. I plan to do the same with my Maggies.

I notice the Gridfusors have a lip around all four sides, to facilitate hanging them in a ceiling grid. If one wanted to double up a pair on a wall, as shown in the pics above, is it acceptable to cut off the lip where to two edges meet, to have what would then look like a single panel?

You can certainly do that.  Just make sure that you line the wells up so that you're making essentially one long one vs 2 individuals which can cause some comb filtering.

Cool. The hard part will be sneaking the carving knife out of the kitchen.

Try a razor knife with the long narrow break off blades.  Works very well on the EPS.
