squeezebox to airport xpress?
« on: 18 Jan 2013, 04:59 pm »
Does anyone know if I can stream from my SB TOUCH to  a device (eg Airport Xpress) that connects to my amp/ bedroom 2nd system?

I am hoping not to have to pay $400 for another SB. I can easily operate the SBT via Ipad from bedroom. Not a very big distance from bedroom to living room/ system 1. And wifi signal decent.

Files are mp3 and flac.

thank you

TOm

It sounds like you want to have your SB send music to an Airport Express and have the airport express feed an amp and speakers.
If that's what you want to do, I don't think that's possible.
You should have a look at the pogoplug thread - "Squeezebox replacement for less than $30" - that's active at the moment.

The Pogoplug outputs via USB.
This page explains your options for feeding your amp...

So the popoplug will stream from squeezebox server via wifi.. Then USB connect to a Dac, from which into amp via RCA.?
All for less than 100 bucks too if that is the case (with Muse mini Dac)
Thanks

The pogoplug in question is not wireless.  Wired only.

You could use a wireless access point, but perhaps that is starting to get complex.

I have exchanged emails with the developer of iPeng which is an app that allows you to control SB with an iphone. I asked a similar question of him. He answered that it would not be possible to stream directly from Logitech Media Server to Airport Express but that this should be possible using an add on to iPeng called Playback and sending your stream to the AE with Airplay. I'm going to be trying it soon and will let you know.

Has anyone managed to get a USB WiFi dongle to work out of the pogoplug?

So no wifi device short of a new SBT?

I'm would assume that an "iDevice" is an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

I can report that it is possible to play LMS through an Airport Express. You must download and pay for the Playback add on to iPeng. Its very inexpensive. If you start LMS, begin playing a file then open iPeng you should see your iPhone displayed as a player choice. Select it. There should also be an icon for Airplay. If you touch that your Airplay devices should be displayed. Select the Airport Express. Your file should now be playing through iPeng to the AE. On my system it sounds very nice. Note that iPeng will not play mysqueexebox.com in this fashion only LMS.
