Purchased a Sony Blu-ray S185
« on: 9 Dec 2012, 02:56 am »
Finally decided to purchase a Blu-ray player. Wasn't keen on any particular brand but wanted something inexpensive since I only have 4 Blu-rays and over a 100 dvd's which I can play on either my laptop or Sony NS9100ES.

The salesman handed me the S185, which plays just about everything, though it says sacd, it does not. Have yet to try Windows Media discs which I have a spool of stuff, I haven't heard. Does not have Wi-Fi.

Anyway the sound quality converted to PCM then piped through my dac with coaxial cable is on par with my laptop, which is very good. Lacks the warm sound of the Sony NS9100ES.

Picture quality is outstanding in blu-ray and upscaled dvd's look smoother than my Sony NS9100ES because of the 1080p.

Bonus feature, links up nicely with my Sony Bravia HDTV.

Reliability- unknown.

Like the small remote and button layout.

Great deal for $70.00  when you consider the sound & picture quality is as good or better than the Sony NS9100ES at $1200.

Yeah you wouldnt think that coax signals would vary but they do on different devices.

I picked up the S590, I believe I got it for under $100.00, it adds the Wyfi, I have to admit these are good performers and feature laiden very reasonably priced.

I've since moved on to Oppo players, but I still have two Sony BDPs that work perfectly. Definitely a solid buy.
