I used my Fozgometer on my old Classic V as well as my WT Reference with great results! On the fly azimuth adjustments is great!

My $0.02,

Yeah, I keep hoping I can find someone here in Chicago with a Fozgometer I can borrow...

Yep.  I fozgo'ed my Well Tempered Ref when I owned it.  Not only was the platter irrelevant, but it was extremely easy with way azimuth adjustments are made by turning the knob.

I tried to use my Fozgometer once with my Amadeus and it didn't work right.  I'll try it again when my system is back up and see what happens.

The slight concave surface of the Well Tempered platter creates an obvious geometric variable between the record surface and the attitude of the cartridge. I was wondering if there were gradual differences between the azimuth at the outer and inner areas of the playing surface.

After asking this question I realized that any test LP is going to have the needed test band at only one area of the LP.

Roscoe,

If I make a trip up to the big city for vinyl shopping, I'd be glad to bring my Foz along  8)

That would be mighty appreciated. And I will happily point you to my favorite record stores around town.

...even if you don't bring the Foz.

I might need a similar point in the right direction when I hit Chicago for X-mas.  In the past there were 3 nice record shops by my father in laws place near lakeview, but they all went out of biz.

Just lemme know a bit before you are coming. And Fred you are always welcome to retreat down here if you want to spin some records. Allow me to repay your hospitality...

For jazz records in Chicago try The Jazz Record Mart;
http://www.jazzmart.com

I went in and fell in love.

There are a couple of Reckless Records, I hit one but wasn't impressed. It was small, I think 1 of the others is much bigger so a better selection, maybe Roscoe can ID the better one.

Jazz Record Mart is good for sure (though be sure you know how to spot and avoid Scorpio pressings, I run into a lot there. Ugh). The downtown Reckless is by far the smallest of the three. Both the Broadway and Milwalkee Ave branches have much bigger selections. Dusty Groove is also a go-to store for me. Closer to my home, there is Hyde Park Records, where I discover a lot of music since they have a turntable out for you to take a listen.

I hit JRM from your recommendation to me last year and walked out with all I could carry  8)

A visit to the MusicDirect warehouse was fun too. I didn't make it to Hyde Park as it was a bit further from where we stayed. Maybe next time.

Yeah, I couldn't remember if you were one of the folks I recommended stores to previously or not. JRM is indeed great, as is the Music Direct warehouse. And yes, Hyde Park is out of the way of most things in Chicago not named The University of Chicago or Museum of Science and Industry.

Dusty Groove is the other Chicago store worth mentioning here, as long as we're going OT...
