Paul Mccartney performs with Nirvana

You can watch it for yourself if you missed it on Saturday Night Live, you can just go to SNL's website and watch this last episode, the Christmas episode. Not the first performance by Faul, the second one, he does a song with Novoselic on bass, Pat Smear on rythym guitar, and Dave Grohl on drums.

I know Grohl has Crooked Vultures right now with John Paul Jones and Josh Homme, but I like Supergroups, and this could also be a cool one if it isn't just a one off.

Go to SNL to watch the performance, but here's the song

^ pretty badass.

The four of them wrote this song together, it's original:

(I guess this was also done at the Sandy Relief concert, which I missed)

Yeah, buddy!  I saw them perform this on the Sandy concert and was blown away!  Very cool, indeed.

I know! I was stunned. It was "That. Just. Happened."

Great song, slightly evocative of helter skelter, I would totally buy the album of they make one.

I  just voted my support for such a thing by buying the song from Zune. $1.29.

Hey!

Yeah, I saw that on the 12/12/12 concert and than SNL.

It was pretty good, a big surprised for me. Good to see Dave Grohl on drum again. He is one hell of a drummer. Paul actually sound great on that one. I think he is better doing loud singing like that than a slower tune now.

How the heck did they get together? It was a good collab for sure. But I can't help thinking about the old day of Nirvana and Kurt seeing those 3 on stage together.

Take care,
Buddy

On SNL what was the strange instrument that he played on the second song?

A cigar box guitar for slide.   Usually a 3 or 4 string instrument.

The company that made the pickup in the guitar is the same one that made my new pickups.

Was it a DIY cigar box guitar or a commercial instrument?

If it is a DIY, it is a damn good looking one.  Most of the DIY cigar box guitars I've seen don't look anywhere near as nice as this one.

From the LA Times:

"A bit more surprisingly, McCartney’s instrumental contribution came on a humble cigar-box guitar he played with a slide. The guitar, as it happens, was made here in the Southland by cigar-box guitar aficionado Matty Baratto, whose Cigfiddle creations were featured in a story I wrote last year about a modern-day revival of interest in the homespun cigar-box guitar tradition.

Baratto’s instruments have made their way into other famous hands, including those of Keith Richards and Johnny Depp, and present-day cigar-box players also include ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons and rocker Steve Miller."
