A different perspective on VTA
« on: Today at 02:50 am »
I found a diagram done by J.I.Agnew (in a "Lathe Trolls" thread called "Confused: Cutting Angle") compelling enough to modify it a bit, and then I got permission to use and publish the diagram (as long as it is always cited).  You might find it interesting:

Here is a "slightly" more authoritative view from "Bauer, B. B."  Chief Engineer Shure Brothers, Chicago, Ill.  I find this topic interesting in light of recent discussions by J.R. Boisclair (WAM Engineering) on the question of "which is more important: setting SRA (often cited at to be optimal at 92 degrees) or to set VTA (now typically 20-23 degrees)?" -- J.R. now leans toward VTA as being more significant -- which is interesting, as my good friend Wally Malewicz (RIP) [ergo: the founder of WAM] gave more weight to SRA (Stylus Rake Angle).
