Ravi endowed us all with a great deal of music, directly and indirectly. I saw my first sitar performance last weekend–very cool.

Thank you Ravi Shankar!

I saw him a few times over the years; a couple with his daughter Anoushka. He was completely amazing, even in his 80's. A consummate musician.

RIP

His daughter Anoushka Shankar (also a Sitar player) has the same smile. RIP Mr. Shankar. Reunited with George (Harrison) again!

Most folks don't know that he is also Norah Jones' father. Raga on Ravi, raga on.

My dad used to love playing Ravi Shankar's Sitar on tape at home ...
He sure left a mark in the heart of millions

Saw him at Symphony Hall in Boston around 1980. Glad I did, not so much because I was a fan of his at the time (although I was aware of him of course) but because I got to see a mezmerizing performance from a rare (in this country anyway) talent.

The greatest sitarist and one of the finest crossover artists that ever lived. Makes me proud to be of Indian origin. Here's to Ravi...

Best,
Anand.

End of an era in so many ways. Without him I would never have discovered the unending source of beauty and joy and life that is classical indian music.

This album was all over Haight-Ashbury in 1965-

Managed to hear it in a few nice settings.  It was sorta required listening.
