Leaving Bryston Gear in Standby Mode
« on: 7 Jun 2013, 05:08 pm »
I have another BIT related question.  If all of my equipment is plugged into the power conditioner and I leave the BIT on, everything will be in Standby Mode.  I need to keep the BIT on because I'll also have a big screen TV and cable device plugged into it and they need to have power all the time.

The question is this.   Are there any negatives to leaving my Bryston equipment in Standby mode 24/7?  I know some folks leave their amps powered on all the time but a Bryston technician told me not to do it.

I've had my Torus CS15 (BIT15 equivalent) turned on 24/7 for over 3 years now and the only casualty has been the orange back light on the power switch.  It now flickers and is only half lit.  No performance issues have manifested to my knowledge.

Don't do it unless you have decent ventilation.

Actually, my question was about leaving my Bryston gear in Standby 24/7.

I was planning on putting it in an area that would provide about 2" free space above it and several inches each side.  There wouldn't be much airflow through the area.

Does the unit generate enough heat to be a problem in this situation?

Standby mode for the majority of solid state components provides the necessary small amount of power required to keep the appropriate circuits energized for IR remote control, 12V trigger power-on and standby LED.

While I don't know if Bryston components meet the latest EC (European Commission) regulations of less than .5W in standby mode, I wouldn't think it would be more than a few watts.

budcook.........I'm using a Furutech with a BP-26 with the MPS-2,BCD-1,BDAC-1 and a 4BSST2,I leave it all on standby except the 4BSST2 with no problems.I do have a lot of space between them though and they are all on their own shelf.

I have my amp turned on by the BP-17 so I can see there shouldn't be any problem with everything in standby.  I guess my only consideration is making sure the BIT is well ventilated.

Thanks everyone.
