Quad sub set up questions
« on: 10 Dec 2012, 02:07 am »
I have recently purchased a pair of Salk Ht2-tl with matching center and am thinking about ordering two Rythmic f 15HP's.  I currently have a pair of  Velodyne Optimum 12's which like the f15's are a sealed design.  I am happy with the Velo's performance thus far but am interested in a quad sub set up.  My room is 17x12x8.  My questions are.  How well will the Rythmics integrate with the velo's?  Should I run the  velo's as a mid bass unit and let the larger more capable Rhythmics handle the lower frequencies?  Is this bass management even possible?  If so how?  I would sell the velo's but it would come at a huge monetary loss.  Or should I scrap the idea and be happy with what I have?

Eldecar, you have a very good starting place for achieving flat bass response in your listening room. I would place the 15 inchers on the front wall of your room and the 12in.Velodynes on the back wall behind your listening position and run them out of phase to start with. Here is a link to the information on the CABS approach to flat bass response. http://vbn.aau.dk/files/12831869/AC-phd.pdf
CABS stands for Controlled Acoustic Bass System. It is discussed in this thread http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=106838.0
If you have any questions about this method feel free to post them. Someone here can probably mislead you :icon_lol:, er, help you to implement either the CABS or Geddes setup in your room. I use a modified CABS setup in my room and I am happy with the results.
