Static eletricity shock with BP-26 cause for worry?
« on: 24 Nov 2012, 06:06 am »
Last night, as I was listening to AM radio, I touched the source knob on my BP-26 preamp and got a static electricity shock.  Immediately, the preamp indicated reversed polarity (LED illuminated orange), and there was a low-level, high-pitched buzzing added to the sound coming from the speakers.  Engaging the polarity switch had no effect on the sound, and only after turning the preamp off and then then on again did operation return to normal.  The shock was relatively minor.

This evening I again had a very small static electricity shock when touching the source knob, but this time the preamp indicated muting (LED illuminated red).  The sound did not mute, but the LED was red.  I turned off the preamp, then turned it on, and all seemed well.

My question is whether I should be concerned about the preamp's condition.  Has anything been damaged, or were the illuminated LEDs just harmless artifacts of static electricity shocks?  I use a humidifier to help minimize static electricity in the room, and I almost always touch something metal to discharge static buildup before I touch any of the sound equipmet.

Hi

No concern at all. Just needs a restart and you are back to normal operation.
