Any Possible Help? Zapped memory card.
« on: 11 Oct 2012, 10:59 pm »
While taking my memory card out of the computer along with a thumb drive attachment used to download photos, I zapped the card and erased all the images stored on it.  Many valuable (to me) shots had never been downloaded to the computer. When I hit the review button on my D-60 I get this message "Folder Contains No Images."  I don't suppose there is any way to recover those shots. I suspect I am screwed.  Any advice other than to be more careful next time?  I dragged the Nikon icon to trash but when I pulled it out of the USB port it stuck and jumped back in and zapped the photos at the same time.

There are plenty of recovery software programs out there.  While I'm too lazy to get one myself, several of my friends have programs that will reach waaaaay back into cards to recover
images.  Even from reformatted cards.

Had a student of mine reformat a card and lose all her vacation shots; with the deep scan it found her vacation AND the one the year before that.

Someone more tech-savvy than me will have to recommend a program for you.

You might give EaseUS a try, I have used to unformat a hard drive with not data loss. Even better is it's free.

edit: sorry, only some are free. the one I needed was free, not some much for the data recovery bits.

I used this program a couple of years ago to recover photos for a friend of mine. It's the only one that recovered them all.

Randy, that stinks.
When I purchased a few CF memory cards there was a free recovery software trial. it worked for me-partially. only the JPEGs. but if you did not reuse the card you should be able to recover the pics

Guys, you are the best.  I tried "EaseUS Mac Data Recovery Wizard" and after muddling through it, registration, access codes, passwords, etc., I now have a folder on my desktop with all the photos I had lost.  Cost $89 but, as most of you probably understand, it was worth it. Thanks very much for all the suggestions.

One of the photos I almost lost. This is the 1862 grave of Private Bennett Tribbett at Three Crossings Station on the Oregon Trail in Wyoming.
I had some trouble uploading. The caption I wrote for it didn't come through, and it seems to be slightly blurry when the original is not.
