SongTower RTS and SongCenter RT for sale
« on: 25 Jul 2012, 08:24 pm »
I have posted my SongTower RTS for sale (LCY version). http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=108066.0 Pics and details are in that thread.  $1750 for the pair.  Local pickup only because I no longer have the boxes (I live in Brooklyn, so I don't really have storage space or the ability to get them to a shipper).  I am trying here before I give them to a friend or put them up on A'gon.  I am only selling becasue I got HT2-TLs and and HTC center.

I guess I am pricing myself too high for the market.  What I am missing?

1.  Even though you are in a major city, local pickup does limit the prospective buying audience somewhat.

2.  It is often a little bit harder to find a buyer for an L/C/R set.  You might want to consider the option of breaking them up and pricing them at $1850 for the SongTower RT pair and $650 for the SongCenter RT.

I would guess that the SongTowers would be quicker to go (and get you 75% of the cash you're looking for), and it might take longer to find an RT(LCY) 2 channel owner that is looking to add a center channel, but you never know.

It also wouldn't hurt to provide a few additional pictures.  I see a picture of what I presume to be the SongCenter high up on a shelf, but nothing that lets me see the drivers or veneer.

I agree with srb that a preference for local sales restricts the pool of buyers.  The fact you do not have the original boxes will turn-off some prospective buyers.

At least some prospective buyers will be concerned about the durability of the ribbon tweeter in used speakers that are three years old.  Add to this that the LCY ribbon tweeter, as good as it is, is not the current ribbon tweeter option.  Some buyers may expect a greater discount for a used speaker that is not the current model.

You are also competing with new SongTower QWT which are $1999 for a standard veneer.  While the QWT speakers do not have the ribbon tweeters, some buyers may favor new speakers with a dome tweeter at a price close to that you are asking.  Particularly in a hometheater application, the ribbon tweeter may not be deemed as large a step-up by some buyers.

Good luck.

I have reduced the price again, but I really doubt that the cost metric is based on a perceived failure of the LCY or the HT application.  The cost of the STs with the center is below new on the QWT, so it is, essentially getting the upgrade for free.  I think it is more the lCY vs. the RAAL and the current economy.  You are right that not having the original boxes hurts.  That said, they would take up valuable real estate in my apartment.  The cost per sq. foot of the apartment is much higher than the value of the speakers, so I will take that hit.  I just remember when Salks held their value better or, maybe, when consumers spent more money.  If I don't get my current ask, I am just going to give them to a friend.  I really don't need the cash that bad to give these away to someone I don't know or care about.

I think there is also the summer factor.  Fewer people are focused on indoor activities, including looking at classifieds on the computer (except us audio geeks ).  You may not want to wait, but I bet there would be more response in September.

Hey, if you're willing to ship the center - go to the AVS Dennis Murphy/Philharmonic  forum. There are a number of those guys that want to buy a cheap ribbon cc to match with their Philharmonics.

A option to consider would be to contact Jim and have him ship you some boxes, though would and to cost.

You need to do a couple more posts before you can PM AC members.

Give it a shot on Agon. I tried selling my STs on AC and other free sites, but nothing doing until I put them on Audiogon. I think it's $4.00 to list them.

^ That is great advice.

Whenever I see threads like this the first thought that goes through my head is: "Bummer, we're losing a Salk family member."  However, they always end with "The only reason I am selling is because" followed by sharing which Salk speaker they've upgraded to.  That just puts a big smile on my face. :D

By the way, $1850 for a pair of SongTower RT's and a RT SongCenter is a ridiculously good deal IMO.  I hope someone jumps on these, because that is just a steal.  I think the reason they haven't sold is because they are limited to local pickup.  Perhaps you could contact Jim regarding acquiring shipping boxes, like drgn95 said.

Only the SongTowers are left. I don't want to ship them because I would need to rent a car to get them to fed ex, or schedule a pickup for $$$. Not worth it. If they sell, I will upgrade my Ava fet valve.  If not, it's a gift to a friend.  I just don't need the money for all the hassle.  If my price is above market and you want to pick them up, make an offer...  I may or may not accept.  Clearly I am not accepting a low ball offer. Aaron will get them before that because at least I will feel good about that. These speakers are phenomenal.

Updating this.  Make an offer.  Not interested in shipping.
