For your consideration, I have a standard AES AE-3 for sale.  :o These hardly ever show up for sale whether built from a kit or factory built. The one I have was factory built and has the factory upgraded feet which I believe was a $100 option alone. This is a worthwhile upgrade as 6SN7 tubes can be microphonic, so the vibration dampening feet help combat this. The unit also has Audio One oil caps. I believe these were the only upgrade options available (when these were sold) but I may be wrong. It is in superb condition. Wood sides look excellent. I'm not keen on the stock golden oak color, but just never got around to refinishing them. This makes a nice point of customization for the next owner. No scratches that I can find anywhere on the unit. I try to be as accurate as possible with my ratings, so I'll give it an 8/10 (due to age). If you've been waiting for one of these to show up, or want to try out an excellent tube preamp without breaking the bank, this is your chance.  :o Note, I also have the original manual / schematic. Modders start drooling now.

Asking $400 for the unit, stock tubes, manual, and standard power cord

I am the second owner. I don't know the exact age, but it must be around 10. I had it checked out by an excellent local tech about 3 months ago just to be sure everything is good to go. Came back with zero problems.

It will come with factory tubes, which are fine to get you started. They have low hours as I mostly used other sets of upgraded tubes. I suggest a good set of Electro Harmonix as an excellent low cost upgrade for this pre.
I never thought I'd let this one go because it sounds so good for so little $, but I have a DJH version I mostly use, and I ran across a crazy deal on another tube preamp I've been wanting to try. I can't keep everything, so time for this one to go to a good home.

The sound is warm and smooth, but with great drive and dynamics. Very natural and fleshed-out with a nice open panoramic soundscape. Just a great piece on the cheap. Fun to use. Makes you want to sit, relax, and listen. That's what it's all about, right?  :thumb: Works great with tube or solid state amps.

PM me if you have questions. I'll try to post pics soon.
I have bought and sold a few things here on AC to great success, but I know I don't have much history yet. If you'd like to read my feedback on Audiogon, my member name is Ryanpdavidson
