After trying in vain follow convenience and use a HT preamp (using its DAC's) for great music, I'm back to separates. Just wasn't happy w/the music playback of any prepro I had, my old CD player w/Melos preamp provided more direct connection to the tunes.
My budget is around 5K for a tube preamp and CD player. Any players out there people love? I heard a Cary CD with a VTL preamp that sounded good. I'm definitely going tube for the preamp. I'm happy to spend less than 5K btw.
