 It got too complicated  . We were actually engaged.  Anyway I actually double taked when I first saw the pic on my phone. But yeah, I do alright. I've taken some time off from girls though. Needed it. Kind of have to with this system build, no girl would let me buy parts like this, spend 3K on modded maggies (actually she hated my system. After we broke up I began my build in earnest  ). Anyway, the plan is.. nothing serious with anyone until my system is done. Then "she" can't do anything about it. Anyway, women like football now, sooo.

Back on topic, has anyone noticed any drawbacks to putting your components inbetween the Magnepans (or other planars)?

I briefly had my rack on one of the side walls (when I had Logans) and noticed that the sound was better. Unfortunately, I lost that war  and now have the rack between my 1.7s. Moving the 1.7s out a bit more than planned has helped a lot but....

So as an original poster I decided to come back and share what I found. Without movig the speakers at all yet as I had really "fun" time moving the audio rack and equipment, reconnecting it all etc. this is what I can easely notice. There is much much more depth to the image. Also for some reason there is much more bass as if all of a sudded I have added small sub.... not sure why the latter occured but it did. Or maybe because of the added depth I am thinking there is also more bass coming out. So sum it up.... if you are allowed to have your rack to the side... DO IT.

I have experienced no drawbacks with a 60cm low finite signature rack between my 3.7´s.

Interesting, and not entirely unexpected. I've noticed that, in essence, the farther the speakers are from the surface behind them, the more depth there is. This apparently occurs all the way out to 15' or even further, though I've never had a room large enough to get them that far out! Also, the distance to the wall will effect bass, the rear wave is out of phase so you get comb filtering which at midbass frequencies creates audible suckouts.

Can you share what type of rack you have?  Not the brand per se, but is it the open or closed type, how many shelves, etc.  The reason I ask is I'm really hoping I can ignore you because I have an open rack so it won't matter.  I really can't add on one more audio project or one more move the whole friggin' room around or one more speaker placement journey.

Its an open rack VTL 404 and in it I have (going from top) TT, SB Touch, Preamp and power conditioner. My mono amps are left in between the speakers. Good thing I had 7m XLR interconnects from my other house where I had no choice but to have the rack away from the speakers or it would have been a very $$$$$ test.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.  I have a few ideas for a workaround.  Unfortunately for me, my Lovan is a near duplicate of your VTI as far as reflections etc. go.  Perhaps when I get done playing with my current project....
