I have a box of Records that I need to let go. I have no idea on how to price these. They have been in my family for generations. Can anyone out there lend some incite on what to do? This is not a sale thread, I truly could use some information.

Then here are, what I believe to be much older ones. These only have material on one side. They are at least 200 gram, I think even thicker.
They look nice.

Unless you have some rare or very desirable stuff, my experience is that 78s in very good condition typically sell in the $5-$10 range.

Many of the problems with accurately pricing very old records, are similar to pricing newer records: Original issue or re-issue; Condition; completeness of original packaging. A tanking economy doesn't help either.

There are many price guides. It would be best to look at a number of them, and get an overall feel of what the price guide writers think the market looks like. Then, subtract 25%.

Perhaps the biggest bounding element is simply whatever copies are already available for sale on line.

There must be a library or foundation that'd be interested in the FDR set.  I'd send an email off to the Smithsonian and see if they need it.  I'd imagine they already have several copies but who knows?  Would the Library of Congress keep something like this?

As for the other 78s, ebay would let you know what others are paying.

Thank you for the help. They are all pretty cool. History.
I also found a diary from my great grandmother too. It is about 4"x5", and is a 5 year book. Each page has 1928 to 1932, each year has about 5 lines. So at the end of 1928 she would start over at the front of the book again, and so on. EVERY day is full. Trippy...

Indiansprings,

With writing from your Grandma, it's worth more to you as family momento than anything else.

My Dad gave me a stamp collection that his Dad (my Grandfather) began back in the early-20's.  It's got stamps going back to the early 1800's from US and elsewhere.  My Dad took active care of it and I did when younger.

I wondered what it was worth beyond sentimental and had it appraised: the stamp market ain't so good and it likely wouldn't fetch $1000.  While $1000 ain't nothing to sneeze at, to be the keeper of a family momento spanning 90 years means far more to me.

Now if they said it was worth $100,000...I might've had to think a little harder on it
