Nice little pop when turning on Tempest
« on: 11 Aug 2012, 03:42 pm »
Hi all, well this is my first time here, I have Odyssey Stratos mono's and Tempest. I have 2 small problems, first when turning on my Tempest I get a nice pop on my speakers and lately I have noticed that there seems to be a dead spot on my volume knob. As when I start to increase volume I only get one speaker with sound until I increase, but also if I turn it down completely I still get low volume on one speaker and the other speaker is silent. Thanks hope to hear from you all soon

having a pop when turning on and off your preamp is normal, this is why you should either leave everything on 24/7 or turn your preamp on and then once it is stabilized turn your amplifiers on, and the opposite when you shutdown everything.

The volume control issue you noticed is also pretty common on that type of volume control. As the resistive surface is worn and degrades it will do that and also that type of volume control just isint perfect. You would need a true stepped attenuator that is perfectly matched for all the channels to have perfect L and R levels.
