O ye men of wisdom:

I was a bit disappointed to find that the "oscilloscope" outputs on my
Harman-Kardon Citation 14 were just left and right audio outputs, not useful for
detecting multipath like those on some McIntosh and Marantz tuners. I see
"Multipath" Oscilloscope outputs on early Scott solid-state tuners such as the
312-D.

Once bitten, twice shy. Can anyone confirm that these are useable for detecting
multipath on a scope? I believe for that to work, the horizontal must be the FM
detector output; if so it could be used with an external decoder.

I was also wondering whether having that scope loading the detector output would
cause problems. It would be nice to have for tuning but who wants to disconnect
the scope every time? Ideally this output would be buffered but I would be
pleasantly surprised if that is the case.

Please let me know if you have the inside knowledge. Thanks!

I found a schematic and the outputs on the 312-C are wired correctly for tuning and multipath.
