Dealer ignorance
« on: 3 Jul 2012, 11:54 pm »
James it seems that some dealers lack knowledge of your products to the degree of denial . My local Bryston service guy was convinced that the cables you sell were inferior to certain other makes than what Bryston currently uses . After considerable debate and delay the customer was able to finally order the Bryston cables. This kind of sales bias will do more to injure the HIFI industry than anything else. We aren't looking for arguments ...just give us what we ask for please . :finger:

Bryston uses one of the Vandamme silver coated tour grade wires (I thought)???  James this is what the web page says.

"This kind of sales bias will do more..."
********
Rather than "bias", I suspect the answer is related to dealer mark up and profit.  Bryston cables are excellent quality at a fair price, IMHO.

Right. There are many fine brands around for sure but I think Bryston is going to pick what's best for their products and, as you say ,at a good price. :thumb:

As a dealer one should be better versed about the products before picking fights with a customer

+1!  And be able to realize when the customer is getting pissed off.

Over the years it's turned out that I bought the most gear (and cars) from low-key and approachable salesmen.  I don't tolerate pushy sales staff.  And I think the younger salespeople should realize we old(er) farts can be pretty testy.   :nono: :duh:

Well the markup on Bryston cables is considerably less due to the low cost of them. That dealer is just trying to upsell to a higher margin profit cable it sounds like. Bryston cables are great place to start and finish but developing a cable strategy is really an on going individual thing. I have no problem with demonstrating a cable but pushing a particular cable is more about the seller's interest then the buyer's IMO.

I'm just in the process of opening up my own HiFi dealership in the UK specialising in Bryston and I will be offering Van Damme, as I use this at home and have been advised that it is the same as the Bryston cable but I'll be also offering Atlas cables as I've found these work brilliantly with Bryston equipment, these go upto well over £2000 a meter, crazy money but I can't wait to get my demo stock in so I can compare to the Van Damme.

At the end of the day, and without wanting to start a cable debate, I will be happy selling either to be honest as hand on heart I know both these cables work brilliantly with Bryston and for me that is all that matters.
