Book on acoustics
« on: 6 Aug 2004, 12:37 pm »
Does anyone know of a book that explains acoustics, including perhaps information on sound "proofing" (i.e., building better walls to limit the transmission of sound) and sound absorbing/scattering (like building bass traps, eighth nerve stuff).  I'd particularly like it if it had theory (I'm an electrical engineer), so that I could understand why things like eighth nerve and bass traps work.

Thanks!

PS -- Websites would work, too, but I'd like to be able to print stuff out; I want some "light" reading before bed!

The Everest "Handbook of Acoustics" is considered the standard by most.  They do cover some room acoustics and designs like the bass trap, etc.  You won't find much information regarding how the 8th Nerve products work as the primary focus of our products is on the reduction of acoustic distortion which for some reason is mostly overlooked.  I hope to have some technical papers up on our website after the new products are in production and the site has been updated to reflect our changes.

Best,

Nathan

The Auralex site has a good deal of info--
http://www.acoustics101.com/

As you might expect, they HOPE you'll buy their  products, but there's also  general info that applies to other brands & DIY.

Bob,

Besides the good leads you already got, there's a lot of solid acoustics information on my company's web site. Follow the link under my name below and go to the Acoustics Info page.
