email with new ISP
« on: 3 Jul 2012, 02:08 pm »
guys, someone sent me a PM inquiring about maintaining his old emails and contacts at his current ISP-assigned email address when switching to a new bundled package with another provider.

having not had this issue myself, thought maybe someone on this circle might have had some experience with a similar issue.

thanks,
todd

see his message below:

I am considering "bundling" my phone, internet & cable service currently from two providers (ATT - phone & internet, Time Warner - cable TV) over to Time Warner for all three services.

My question is this... how do I transfer all of my email correspondences that I have saved on my ATT email when I have the new Time Warner email service.  Am I correct to assume that they are completely two different services and once I cancel my ATT service all of my "saved" emails with them will disappear into the "cloud" somewhere?

Pardon my ingnorance in advance.  I know a bit about audio having loved music and educated myself abouts its compnents over many years, but the functionality of computers, not so much.

All that's needed is to copy the emails to the local drive. Any reasonable email client will allow you to do that. Just create a local folder/s, and drag'n'drop.

Switch to gmail, Yahoo Mail, Hotmail and never have that problem again or needing to tell everyone your new email address ...

A few more options to consider:

The old provider may have a low cost option to maintain the email address. It may be more trouble than it's worth long term but practical in short to mean term.

To allow flexibility and control, I've registered my own domain. That is cheap and I will never change (private) addresses again.
