I agree with a few of the commenters, FLAC or other lossless format is the way to go. This will allow you to convert to whatever future formats come along without the need to re-rip the discs.

I've played around a bit with other files here at home, and yes it does get tougher to ID things as the bitrate goes up, but not impossible.

I love how your supposed to play these guessing games by putting on some headphones and hitting buttons on your laptop or phone. Do the compression comparison with your main stereo system and then decide. You won't *not* hear the compression in 192 vs uncompressed. 320 is very close but not identical. In fact there are times when I've preferred the 320 vs uncompressed. There's something about a CBR Lame 320 that sounded appealing to me at times, don't know why, like a false noise reduction I think due to the info lost.
