Encryption with truecrypt before cloud storage
« on: 17 May 2012, 11:57 pm »
I have 25 gig of cloud storage, courtesy of Microsoft and Skydrive.

So, I would like to store some data there, so I don't have to worry about backup and disaster recovery, but then I worried about the security of the data, or lack thereof

I started looking into how to handle this, and it looks like truecrypt is the way to go.

I could use truecrypt to encrypt a folder, and then upload it to skydrive.

It is supposed to be bulletproof, and basically unbreakable.

Any comments?

Should work, but the files being synced to Skydrive will be encrypted so, for example, you wouldn't be able to read them from an iPhone or iPad.  As an access method this isn't a good strategy, but for backup its just fine.
