1. I took a 3-way speaker that I currently like and listened to it first in a blind setup.
2. Then as each Model T speaker was developed I listened to it blind again in comparison to my reference
3. Started out with a simple 3-way version of the Model T active - 1-woofer, 1 mid, 1 tweeter.
4. Then tried 2 woofers - 2 mids 1 tweeter
5. Still not happy!
6. Then finally 3 woofers, 2 mids and 2 tweeters. - happy now.
7. Then replaced the reference speakers with the latest model T so that the positioning behind the screen was identical and listened some more
8. Since then we have been adjusting the front listening window curves, testing in the anechoic chamber and re-listening and assessing which combination of curves adds up to the best results (accuracy)
9. Now have them at home for further listening.
10.This has so far been with the Active Model T's but now we are building a Passive version to see how close we can come to the performance of the Active version without all the complexity the Active version brings with    it.

If I understand correctly the speakers you mention in #1 (the one you like) and in #7 (the reference speakers) are one the same?
What are these reference speakers that you compare T to?

Hi Sasha - yes the same speaker.  I would rather not divulge what speakers they were though.

James won't tell us what his reference speaker is, and no doubt he has good reasons that he won't. But if you're right, I would imagine that he would get a result not unlike my Axiom M80 vs. PMC MB2i experience.

I probably would, but i am hoping the new passive version of the Model T, becomes reality, for the masses.

I'm hoping for the Model T also. It probably will have the same basic characteristics as the M80 in terms of accuracy, neutrality, and linearity.

I am writing the literature now and a lot of it has to do with explaining why the measurements we have chosen matter.  That being said you can still manipulate the measurements within what we call a 'listening window' based on the blind listening tests.

I understand that the listening window is a critical measure.

BTW, reading between the lines of your message, it seems that if you are "writing the literature" you may have, in fact, made a decision to produce and sell the Model T. 

Will you be posting the literature as you have posted pictures of the prototype Model T?

Everything will be based on the sound of the Passive system ... which I will get to play with next week - if all goes well I will probably make it available in the Passive version first.

Thanks, James. As a potential buyer of the passive version (subject to whether I can afford it and how it stacks up against the M80) that is very good news to me. My guess it that others will be equally happy.
