M165 woofer crossed at or around 3000hz
« on: 1 Jun 2012, 10:35 pm »
I would like to build a TM using the M165 woofer.  I have a pair of Fountek Ne03.0 and would like to cross them at or around 3000hz.  I would like to know if the M165 is capable of going up the 3000hz range.  I know its smaller sibling the M130 has been used with a fountek tweeter.  The TM will also be a sealed enclosure.  Comments please.

Welcome to AC.

Yep, no problem. The woofer will smoothly play up to that range.

Keep in mind though that the height of that ribbon will cause a very limited vertical dispersion and the high crossover point will cause some cancellation effects in the vertical off axis. There two things together will cause an uneven in room response.

A shorter planar design like the Neo 3 won't have such a limited dispersion and a lower crossover point will allow for a much more even vertical off axis.

And as good as the woofer is, it is still no match for a good tweeter from 2kHz and up.
