This little speaker project was designed to offer up a taste of single driver full range sound at a cheap and cheerful price.  I intended to use these in a small bedroom with a subwoofer, but ended up liking them even better as desktop speakers.  In any case, I'm moving and won't have a location to use them where I'm going.  The drivers have less than 100 hours on them, and the Parts Express .25 cu foot enclosures (squared, not curved) in cherry are perfect.  The sealed boxes are lined with P.E. damping (see photos) and binding posts are also courtesy of P.E.  Total invested is probably around $240.  Price drop to $100 plus shipping (in the original P.E. shipping box).

Excellent (IMHO world class) midrange, decent treble (relaxed and little rolled off, but fast and very clean with no grit or spit), and limited bass (rolls off pretty quickly below 90 hz or so).  They work great blended with a sub, and also nice on the desktop.  They image very well with good depth, width and 3 dimensionality when set up on stands and out away from walls.  Efficiency seems pretty high for a compact driver in a tiny box... I'd guess 86 or 87 db output for 1 watt in.  All in all, if I wasn't moving and losing my second (bedroom) system and office desktop I'd certainly be keeping them.

These are CSS EL70.

This driver can be a real bass monster, the addition of a 1.5" ID vent 6.5" long. With a box this small a high aspect slot port would be of benefit.
