There is an app for the SBT which changes its USB-In to a USB-Out.

Can I connect the SBT USB-Out to one of the USB-In connections on the BDP-1 and expect to hear whatever I play through the SBT?

Is there any chance that I could damage either component by trying this connection?

Thank You

Hi fado,

Gee I really do not know - I can not see it doing any harm - give it a try and if something breaks I will deny all involvment

Don't think it will work.  The BDP-1 requires an external DAC anyway.  I use my Squeezebox Touch with the BDA-1

I wondered if the BDP-1's circuitry would improve the quality of the signal from the SBT before going to the DAC.

I am not sure what source you use for SBT, and I love my SBT and have an upgraded power supply for it, but I can't imagine why one would take a source and drag it through another device?  The interface on the SBT is great (in my opinion much better than the BDP-1), but I look at it as a poor man's BDP-1 overall.  As soon as I get around (whenever that is) to digitize more things, I will look at upgrading the SBT.  The BDP-1 can do internet radio and music files and if I had one, I probably would be putting the SBT in a secondary system.  Are you contemplating just running digital music files through it?  And if so, then why not straight through the BDP-1?  I guess I am trying to figure out the purpose of why the SBT needs to be in the chain.

^ I am guessing that his idea is he could use the Touch to essentially give the BDP-1 access to all his tunes stored on his computer/server. If it worked the Touch would just be ("bit-perfectly") passing the digital data to the BDP-1, so that's not really a prob. The big prob is the Touch USB output data is not in the *file* format the BDP-1 would expect to see at the USB port, so IMO it shouldn't work. (I also have a Touch into a BDA-1.)

Why not just use the BDP?   (Please don't say for internet radio)

I concur.  There's no doubt the SBT has a friendly interface but even if it could be done, it's not going to make the sound better

I did not voice "internet radio" but that is exactly what I was thinking - Pandora, etc (sorry). I have several SSDs connected directly to my BDP-1 for my stored music files.  I do, however, enjoy the streaming sources like Pandora for their variety and ease of use via the SBT.  I believe these sources will continue to improve but for now I just want to get the best possible SQ that these sources currently offer.

The BDP-1 does play certain streaming sources that Bryston has set up so I was hoping that using the USB-Out app for the SBT might allow the BDP-1 to accept other streaming sources. I was also hoping that whatever the BDP-1 does to improve the SQ of stored files might extend to internet sources - again, recognizing source limitations.
