ordering SCST and SC CC
« on: 24 May 2012, 03:59 pm »
After several weeks of pondering my options, I've decided to order a pair of SCSTs and a custom made supercharged center.
Jim found an unusual spalted beeswing Makore for the SCSTs:http://www.wood-veneers.com/Makore_Spalted_Beeswing_4282-04_JPG.html
He said he's never seen an example like this, so it should be unique.
The center will be designed to fit on my mantle below the plasma screen, the space is only 7" high and 8 1/2" deep, but there's plenty of width available to get the right volume. It will be done in black to blend in with the bezel on my Pioneer Elite plasma screen.
This will be replacing a 25 yr old pair of Vandersteen 2Cs and a Vienna Waltz Grand CC. Front end is an Oppo-93 into an Anthem MRX300 with a Parasound 2205-A amp.
Can't wait, should be awesome and unique!

How much is this custom veneer costing you? I'm trying to see how much on an average a custom veneer adds to the price of the speakers.. I know it varies with the veneer...

Much less than I would have thought. $300 for the pair, including the baffle (the SCST comes with a full baffle). Didn't think very long about that one.

I only paid $160 on my Songbirds. Worth every penny.

Looks like it. Curiosity got the better of me (though I tried to avoid doing this) and I peeped into the website.
Now, I wish I should have ordered my ST-RTs in Walnut Australian Stripe dyed to the color I wanted. The premium veneer was one aspect I didn't discuss much with Jim as I thought it would always be *expensive*.  :duh: :duh: :duh:

I'm thinking it should have cost me only around $150 more....

I was going to just get everything in satin black, but that seemed silly given Jim's reputation for superior veneer work.

How's that coming along? How long have you been waiting for that and your Tempesta?
I was going to wait for your comparo, but went another direction as you can see.

have had parts for the Tempesta for a long time, Rick shipped that in a matter of days.  been waiting on the cabinets to be built by a 3rd party, and now those are in transit; set to arrive in a few days.

Cirrus seem to be coming along semi-quickly.  Ryan said he may be able to start the veneer this weekend.  it's been two months so far for those.
