hi!

primary is connected to 220VAC and double checked wire colours

voltage measurements were as follows:

- GREEN 1 AND GREEN 2: 3VAC
- RED 1 AND RED 2: 604VAC
- YELLOW 1 AND YELLOW 2: 1VAC

this makes me think about bad tranny, maybe 120VAC connection works ok but 220VAC doesn't
could this be possible?
this would explain why you made it work and i'm not capable of run it

i've seen hammond trannys in a local shop but i want to be completely sure before spending 60€

Hmmm, I don't know why GG and YY outputs are so low.  This is an odd failure mode, if tranny.  Normally it is the primary side that has trouble.  Perhaps tranny is bad.  I can't tell for sure.

Leitmo!

All your components check out, your tubes are working, so it seems only the tranny could be your issue now.  I agree that Jim could have success and you could have failure based on the different windings being used.

If you shop in town has the Hammond, you will not necessarily need the World voltage piece Jim specs in the build.  You can use a Hammond with just the voltage for your area and of course you need the proper voltage for the heaters.

I an not a betting man, but I figure you have exhausted every other possibility.  Jim had it working fine.  I think you should trust your build and not trust the tranny.

Hope 2009 is a great year for your Hagerman piece!

i hope it so tubesforever!

i'll look for hammond tranny alternatives with only 1 primary for 220VAC operation

any European customer here??

We are all hoping you are able to get your project working!

I'd wonder, did you get a replacement for the transformer?  What you wrote below might indicate that there is a problem with the old tranny as has been suggested...

If there is a silver lining to your cloud Leitmo, as I discovered when I had problems, you really begin to know your way around a circuit board. There is nothing quite like troubleshooting to figure out what everything does! Good luck!

To musicMtnMonkey:

i didn't get a new tranny, these new test with good with wires disconnected makes me think there's something worng on PCB again,

i'll be honest i think i don't want to get this preamp to work, almost a year of troubles is too much, if i finally get it work i'll sell it, if not i'll sell it only for PCB and parts cost

Hi everyone at Audiocircle again,

it's has been a long time since my last post, a year and a half!!! this summer i decided to give my Cornet2 a chance to work:

main issue come from R219, 4 V instead of 155V required, all other voltages are ok, a bit higher than marked (10% higher). My first thought was "there's something wrong with both Q200" i disconnected both transistors from heatsinks and voila! one channel measures 160V at R219!!! second channel still measuring 4V :(

I changed Q200 on left channel with Q200 on right channel to test if transistor was bad but it's innocent, 4V on R219 is still in the same channel, i also tested R217, R218 and C205 and are ok.

May it be due to bad solder? Do i desolder and solder again tube socket and components surrounding R219??

Thanks for reading!!!

Louiswerbe, I think it's better to open new thread about your specific issues and made the device work.
