How's This For A New Planar/Electrostat?
« on: 23 Apr 2012, 01:42 am »
Came across this new company and its very distinctive new hybrid electrostat.
Well, actually it was drawn to my attention by Rob from ER Audio!
Looks very nice.
Price is not too high either.
They do not seem to call it an electrostat but ER designed and manufactures the electrostatic panel!
Here is the link.

It is not ever day (or month, or year!) that a new ELS speaker company turns up, especially one that has a product which looks as swish as this!
I would be nice to have input from some one who has heard one.
What do you guys think?

Not heard of them, thanks for the link. A friend has a pair of ER Audio electrostats. I wonder if too many have heard one so far, I wish I was in Victoria (only for audio reasons mind you ;) )

Wow, speakers designed by Candice Olson  :icon_lol:

I always liked the acrylic panel look, remember seeing some OB cones in clear panels, just floating in space...

Woofer looks kinda of wimpy though.

Cool design.  I could see using them as a set of invisible surrounds in my system.

I went to their website as I also have never heard of them. Their specs list 80Hz to 20KHz. In otherwords not much base and for me a limited top end. I would have prefered 40Hz to 23KHz

Very handsome speakers.
Let's see, a roundtrip would be roughly 10309.1 Miles ( 16591 Kilometers / 8952.5 Nautical Miles ) one way, give or take a few hundred.
It might be a while before I get a chance to hear some so if anyone wants to jump in first with a review I won't be offended.

Now that's whiz-bang styling!  Given the smallish woofer and panel area, though, I wouldn't expect them to play with a lot of authority.

OK, it's only a little woofer, but no smaller than what a lot of people have. Hard to tell but it looks like a 6.5". You would presumably use it with a sub/s. What 2k panel speaker plays with "a lot of authority"?

It's an attractive design, but it looks like the mid/tweeter beams (assuming that they're using the entire panel, rather than segmenting it with a crossover or time delay) and I wonder about mating an electrostatic tweeter to a dynamic midwoofer, particularly a ported, omnidirectional one. The designs I've heard that do that (admittedly, made some years ago) sound almost like two speakers -- a blurry dynamic one in the lower frequencies, and a clear electrostatic one in the highs. But, of course, that's just speculation, implementation counts for a lot.

For those wanting more information about the electrostatic panel.
Here is what Rob from (ER Audio who makes them) told me.
Panel size is approximately 150 x 445 x 8 mm.
Frequency response is from 150 to 20K.
These panels go very loud.
Hope that supplies more helpful information.
Given the key influence from Rob & ER Audio I would expect these to be top performers and exceptional value for money.
