Even Goodwill is getting into the act.........
« on: 16 Apr 2012, 04:21 am »
Flipping through the .50 records in my local (rural) Goodwill store today, and ran across Jimi Hendrix' "Are You Experienced" in a badly beat-up cover.

Price?  $8!    :o

Seems a local record dealer has been teaching them about collectable records........... :nono:

Anyway, even for eight bucks it sounds really good!   :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

My goodwill is at $1 per album but Beatles albums (never seen any) are $2.

Not only are they playing the "vintage records" game, there's a whole website for their finer donated electronics pieces and whatnot. Looks like they found ebay online and decided to play the game as well. My locals have all but dried up since that happened, actually some time ago. Shame, I got LOTS of records over the years, and as many systems as I could afford for pennies on the dollar, all sold to local second-hand stores (I lived off this for many years). Not so much now. Everybody's playing now. I have enough gear (never enough records) and I'm actually getting more and more interested in hirez so that's yet another funnel for my ever-dwindling income to pour down and into that bottomless hole. :green:

Next time you check out used CD's, or DVD's on Amazon you'll see a lot of the Goodwill type non-profits selling used media items.... I try and use them whenever possible and haven't gotten burned by any but I have no idea what the customer service would be like. Aren't they generally really under staffed?

I think its fantastic and hope they really make some money to help folks...

That's weired. Never the Goodwill or even Salvation Army thrift stores in my city here ever sell used LPs so expensive???

Without exception since day one I started shopping Godwill a few years back, ALL used LPs sell for 75cents a pop on Friday sales.

My goodwill is at $1 per album but Beatles albums (never seen any) are $2.

Yes, I don't know why Beatles LPs or CDs can never found there. I was lucky enough to have picked up 2 Elvis Presley LPs there. As usual, 75 cents a pop.

They sound from decent to superb after my PRE-play treatment.

I don't have a problem paying higher prices there for rare(r) stuff.  I certainly have cleaned up in the past with Dynaco, Marantz, AR, etc.

They do great work, take good care of the community, and sell most stuff really cheap, including 99% of the records.  Now, if they start jacking up Shaded Dogs I may rethink that position.

I do not know about other states but in California Goodwill is an authorized e-waste recycler.  They accept e-waste at their donation centers so it is very convenient.  No need to store waste and wait for some special event.
