Lyle Lovett - Release Me

Anyone get it, like it??
Samples sound very country.  I don't really do country but I like his lyrics.  Love his large band music.

It's a "contractual obligation" album ( hence the title ) so approach with caution...

Haven't heard it but like you said his Large band music is excellent.  His Large band was touring with John Hiatt (whom I also happen to like very much) last year  which unfortunately I was not able to attend

This is his first since parting ways with Curb records. It's good, but lacks the edginess/quirkiness of his early-mid 90's albums. The songs are all over the map musically, which you may or may not like. I didn't. I hate duets, so this album is low on my list of Lyle Lovett albums. It doesn't suck, it's just not the one I'll reach for when I need a LL fix.

I really need to get some Lyle into my library - every time I hear something of his, I enjoy it but I never get around to actually buying some of his albums. Then I see a picture of him and he looks so thin and then I feel guilty...

What would you guys suggest as the best bets from his catalogue?

Get "Pontiac" first. It's his best in my opinion. The opener "If I Had a Boat" is F-ing incredible!

Road To Ensenada, Joshua Judges Ruth, and I Love Everybody are my favorites, in that order.  :thumb:

Joshua Judges Ruth make most list for dynamics and clean, detailed recording.  It's most def demo quality.

I have to second "Pontiac" and "Joshua Judges Ruth" as the top two Lovett releases.  Only slightly less preferred are the original "Lyle Lovett" self titled from '86, "Live from Texas", and " Lyle Lovett and His Large Band".

Thanks guys, I'll probably get it soon.  Nobody mentioned sound quality, how is it?

Klaus from Odyssey had a demo track from JJR in his room at the MidwestAudioFest way back when.  I have been enjoying LL since.

Diamond Dog.  Don't start with the best of/Live albums as you may get spoiled.  Start with the recommended earlier albums and move up the line.  I absolutely love the live album but it's recorded too hot for my tastes.  I but a towel over my tweeters  :?

Have you listened to Road To Ensenada?
