What do speakers sit on?

This is probably a question for The Lab, but I'm thinking of RM/X specifically and people here may have insight. What should speakers sit on, ideally?

1. On the carpet, with wooden floor underneath. The speakers will resonate the floor, which is good.

2. On a 600# block of marble, which not even a big heavy speaker is going to resonate. (Note to self: the aggregate weight is a half ton. Reinforce the floor.)

3. On a separate concrete foundation, uncoupled from the rest of the house.

4. On 32 micro-poly-mega-pyramidal-solid-gold-with-kryptillian-core balanced SoniSpikes, with the earth's-magnetic-field-cancelling upgrade, arranged in the shape of an ellipse, under a full moon. (Note to self: remember anyone that recommends this. Sell them that swamp land.)

Seriously, what's good?

Mine sit on a concrete foundation. To reduce coupling somewhat (and prevent any potential rattle of wood against concrete), I use an industrial size sheet of the non-slip rubber padding (basically the same stuff your wife uses in her silverware drawer except slightly wider and thicker). With the weight of the RM/X or RM40, it compresses down to probably 1/16th or 1/32nd of an inch or so. I use thin leather shims to ensure the RM/X is stable and does not wobble.

I have tried lots of stuff and this is what seems to work out best with VMPS.
