Good External HDD Enclosure?
« on: 29 Feb 2012, 08:12 pm »
Has anyone found a good external hdd enclosure that is not usb buss powered?  I have been using an Oyen MiniPro that works well but has broken twice in the past year.  The solder joint connecting the dc jack to the board keeps breaking.  It does not get a lot of abuse.  I typically use it on weekends, I plug it in, turn it on and leave it alone.  It is very disappointing.

Is there another good, quiet alternative?

Thanks

I was waiting for a Bryston enclosure but that isn't going to happen.  I recently bought this:

That's a beaut.  I'm looking, however, for just a good sounding enclosure for a 2.5 or 3.5" hdd.  Preferably one that requires a 12vdc power supply (as I have one).

Hi setamp,

When the boss wants a new external powered drive we pick up one of these http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817392048

They are built exceptionally well, constructed of aluminum to act as a passive cooling system for the hard drive.  So no fan is needed and the power connector is quite solid.

Cheers,
Chris

Or you could try and persuade James that the BDE-1 was a really good idea after all..... :deadhorse:
